About Us
Jennifer purchased the farm we have now in 1993. She met Chris in 1995...They got married in 2000 and have 2 beautiful children Travis (born in 2001) and Taylor (born in 2003). Rockin' H Ranch home of VIP Chincoteague Ponies is now owned by Chris and Jennifer Hagquist.
Jennifer has had horses and ponies since she was 10 years old. She has been breeding and showing for almost 40 years. She started out with grade horses and ponies and then had a few quarter horses.....Paints and Half Arab pintos took over from there....but when she got married and started to have her own children she decided to switch to breeding ponies...
In the year 2000 she discovered that a registry for Chincoteague ponies had been started in 1994 and since she was hoping to breed some type of registered ponies...she decided to look for some registered Chincoteague ponies. Since there were only about 1000 registered Chincoteague ponies in the country at that time, this task proved difficult.
She finally found 2 bred mares and a stallion in Iowa...the ponies were originally purchased at the 1997 and 1998 pony swim auctions.
In the spring of 2002 her first Chincoteague foals were born ...both colts...a solid black and a palomino pinto.
Since then she has bought, bred and sold numerous registered Chincoteague foals, mares and a variety of stallions, even adding the lines of the famous "Misty of Chincoteague" to her herd. She now keeps 10-15 Registered Chincoteague Ponies here at the farm. Every spring she has several foals for sale and occasionally has a few older ponies for sale
Jennifer uses her years of breeding experience and extensive research in genetics to choose which ponies to breed to produce the best Chincoteague foals possible. She strives to produce purebred Chincoteague ponies with good confirmation, temperments and athletic abilities and matches them to customers looking for what each foal has to offer.
Any of the ponies at Rockin' H Ranch may be available for purchase under the right circumstances even if they are not on the sales list.
We do presently have a waiting list for "Misty" bred fillies. We do hope to have ponies for these people in 2011.
A high percentage of our business has been from repeat customers and referrals. We also work with other Chincoteague Pony owners and breeders to promote the breed.
We would welcome the opportunity to introduce you to our ponies and see if a Chincoteague Pony should become part of your family!
